No French university or other higher education institution can afford not to communicate in English.

Their websites, brochures and course catalogues must all be available in good English if they are to raise the international profile of the institution, attract foreign students and promote their research and researchers. This calls for a professional translator with a specialized knowledge of academic institutions in both France and the English-speaking world. The alternative is an awkward hodgepodge of French concepts rendered in clumsy English.

Perhaps your institution has decided to translate all its communications material into English; I can ensure overall consistency between documents and special rates for a large volume of translation. Or perhaps you prefer to translate selected material only; here, I can provide professional help weeding out any content irrelevant to an international audience before translating the reduced volume. Whatever your specific translation needs, I will make sure that your English-language communications are of top-class international standard.

Higher Education

  • A thorough knowledge of the institutional vocabulary used in the academic world (degree and course equivalents, academic titles, organization of studies, etc.)

  • Familiarity with university communication goals and strategies, and the style of writing used to achieve them.

  • Extensive experience with both public and private institutions, which qualifies me to suggest strategic modifications and tailor content to an international audience.

  • Equal competence in both British and American English – I can help the client choose based on their intended readership.

  • The potential to build an ongoing relationship with one trusted service provider. I can keep your website updated in future, thereby improving SEO results and ensuring a dynamic image for your university.

  • In addition to translating, I also edit documents written in English by French native speakers or already translated from French to English, and write original copy where required.

  • I am happy to take on anything from editing a one-page flier to translating a full institutional website or a 100-page course catalogue.

WHAT I HAVE TO OFFER

RECENT PROJECTS

Université numérique Paris Ile-de-France

Sciences Po is one of Europe’s leading universities for the social sciences. Since 2015, I have been providing translation, English editing, subtitling and linguistic consulting services to Sciences Po’s various departments, schools, research centres and professional services divisions.

Université Paris-Saclay is a university system that includes several of France’s leading grandes écoles, public universities and research centers. I regularly translate the University’s online news items, press releases and key documents such as the latest strategic report.

ENS Cachan’s recent rebranding as École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay involved re-development of the institution’s website. They entrusted me with the translation of all new content and correction of existing English-language content.

Inalco, the French National Institute for Oriental Languages and Cultures, teaches over a hundred languages and cultural studies spanning Central Europe, Africa, Asia, America, and Oceania. I translate communication materials for both Inalco and the Inalco Foundation.
